Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut says he raised $900,000 over the past three months for his re-election bid, and his potential Republican opponents raised and spent large sums.
Jay Howser, Dodd's campaign manager, noted Dodd was busy working on health care legislation in July and recuperating from prostate cancer surgery in August. He says the senator has about $2 million on hand.
Senate candidates have until Thursday to file their campaign finance reports with the Federal Election Commission.
Republican Linda McMahon, the former chief executive of World Wrestling Entertainment, reports spending more than $2 million of her own money in the third quarter. Former Rep. Rob Simmons raised nearly $968,000 and former ambassador Tom Foley raised $780,000.
