Robin van Persie scored twice against a lax Tottenham defense in a 3-0 victory Saturday, helping Arsenal remain unbeaten against its Premier League rival over the last decade.
Arsenal, looking for its first league title since 2004, opened the scoring in 42nd minute. Van Persie brushed off Ledley King's weak challenge and beat goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. Cesc Fabregas made it 2-0 just 11 seconds after play restarted.
"From the moment we scored our first goal, they died basically," Van Persie said.
Arsenal sank Tottenham's faint hopes of a comeback in the 60th minute when Van Persie completed the scoring, capitalizing on the failure of King and Gomes to clear the ball.
"They were sloppy goals that we conceded," Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said. "I was angry with the goals, but not the performance."
